ART WITH KIDS
It was about two months ago in early June when I mentioned to a co-worker "this summer I would like to do a FREE art event for kids." I had a feeling that by putting those words into the universe, that a reality would occur. Later that month, as my Sister Katrina and I sat at a kitchen table brainstorming on the idea, she encouraged and through a bit of brainstorming, suggested the name ART WITH KIDS as a title for the event that I envisioned organizing.
On Saturday, August 4, 2018, a day where rain and thunderstorms had been predicted, ART WITH KIDS went off without any problems. By the accounts of many in attendance, it was declared a success.
With a collection of bright colors, open microphone performances, rock and face painting, board games, and an introduction to golf, smiles were observed throughout the hours of afternoon fun.
The sun shined. The clouds and sky were bright. Both boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, seemed to enjoy the company of one another in sheer delight.
As I now reflect a few days later after our first ART WITH KIDS event, WOW!!! I am grateful for the support of family and friends who contributed their resources and time, and the relative ease that the many pieces each seemed to fit into their perfect places, in just a little over one month.
ART WITH KIDS was described in many ways. However, Ms. Gilda Harris' Facebook post brought a big smile to my face. "The first of many Art With Kids workshop presented by Jill Patrick and Roxanne Wells was held at the Stryker Golf Club. This FREE event featured arts and crafts, open mike, singing and spoken word presentations, an introduction to golf along with food and fellowship!"
That is truly how the day had transpired.
As this summer comes to a close, I feel a sense of pride that our one of-a-kind art event, hosted by friends/educators, Jill Patrick and Roxanne Wells, somehow fits into the highlights of all involved in a positive light.
Until the next time, take good care of yourself!!
